AVAX technical analysis: Can the bulls power through?

The 2024 Avalanche price prediction revealed a volatile journey with significant price movements observed between August 2023 and August 2024. The initial period saw AVAX undergoing a continuous downturn

Consecutive bearish candles drove it to its lowest support level of $8 in mid-September. However, in mid-October, a bullish rally emerged. This trend was not isolated to AVAX but was observed across many altcoins during this period. The rally propelled the price over $18 in mid-November.

December brought a significant price surge, flipping the $32 level in the buyers’ favor. Following this, the token surged past $37 by mid-month. This peak was not sustained as the market corrected due to the asset’s overvaluation. 

Consequently, the price returned to $32 by January, and the buying pressure started to build up again. The momentum continued after decisively flipping $37 in mid-February. A substantial pump in mid-March allowed the price to test the two-year high resistance at $60.

Nonetheless, the broader market crash reversed AVAX’s fortunes as it depreciated, returning to $32 by April. Until early June, the price remained range-bound between this level and $37. A bearish breakdown succeeded mid-month, driving the price to $24, where it stabilized until early July. 
 

To make things worse, the network activity declined during Q2 2024. Daily transactions on the blockchain saw a 30% year-over-year (YoY) drop in Q2. The number of new addresses on Avalanche also decreased compared to Q2 of the previous year. Additionally, Avalanche's non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem experienced a 90% decline relative to Q2 2023.
 

The data suggested that the outlook for AVAX in Q3 was not particularly promising. However, AMBCrypto reported that traders who acquired AVAX in the past 30 days increased substantially mid-month, indicating a short-term bullish bias. Moreover, the daily chart revealed a descending triangle formation, suggesting an imminent breakout. 

Consequently, the price tested $32. Nevertheless, the rejection in late July flipped $24 to resistance, and AVAX plunged to $18 in August. At the time of writing, it exchanged hands at $21.

Despite these challenges, AMBCrypto noted that investor holdings have consistently risen since mid-2022, suggesting a potential bullish trend. Market activity also intensified, as evidenced by the liquidation heatmap. Data revealed a cluster of liquidations in the $23–$24 price range, with market participants watching for possible breakouts or rejections.

A breakout could extend the rally to $32. However, AVAX should retrace its steps over $37 for a convincing reversal. A prolonged bull run over this level can increase the likelihood of overcoming the peak resistance. If this happens, the asset can go as high as $70 in the medium term. 

A more optimistic outlook, backed by sustained buying pressure, suggests the following targets would be $80 and $100. Yet, these price points may also present significant resistance, possibly leading to a pullback. If the bulls manage to avoid that, an all-time high (ATH) is also within the realm of possibility.

If the price is rejected, it might retract to the current support. A breach below it could allow sellers to extend their bearish momentum. In this case, the price could fall into the $14-$11 support range.
 

Notably, the predictive models seem modest about AVAX’s prospects. According to their predictions, the token's average price can be $40 in 2032, and it can increase to $60 in 2035. 

AVAX’s 2024 roadmap: Key indicators to watch and trade

• The trading volume recovered with the October rally after being lackluster. After that, it mimicked the price’s movements. Its lower values since late March indicated investor caution.
• The On-Balance Volume (OBV) rose exponentially from mid-September to mid-March before reversing. It was recorded at 486.29 million at press time, reflecting the resurfaced selling pressure.
• A look at the Directional Movement Index (DMI) indicator revealed that the ADX line remained the lowest until the latter half of 2023. Notably, by late October, the +DI line decisively took the dominant position while the -DI line declined. The latter moved below the ADX line by November.
• In January, the uptrend strengthened as the ADX crossed above the +DI line. However, falling prices led to a decline in the ADX and +DI by March, while the -DI rose, overtaking the +DI and ADX lines by early and mid-June, respectively.
• The latest indicator values were the ADX at 19.5425, +DI at 16.6031, and -DI at 26.4278. These values suggested a weak bearish trend in the market.
